Guirne Creith portrait

Composer, viola player, and pianist

Guirne Creith entered the Royal Academy of Music at the age of 16 to study composition, viola and piano and played under the baton of Sir Henry Wood in the 1920s.

As a pianist she gave regular recitals and broadcasts until 1952 when an accident to her right hand terminated her career as a pianist. She was also a brilliant linguist and in later life became a music teacher, published author, watercolourist, wine expert and broadcaster on wine and culinary subjects.

Compositions

Her compositions span thirty years and include songs, chamber music and orchestral works. Some were published, but many of her original manuscripts were lost during the period 1955-1960. We very much hope that this website will now be able to ‘unearth’ these important scores and as a result we will be able to create a new and definitive archive of her complete works.
